We went during an off hour when nobody else was here. All rolls can be made as long rolls or hand rolls. Nigiri is great! They have their "specialty" nigiris which is yum! The pieces are larger compared to other sushi joints so you'll fill up quick. The inside was nice. I recommend updating/changing their menus because their menus are starting to fade and they're kind of sticky to touch. Sushi price is a bit higher compared to other places, but worth it because they have many sushi creations that others don't have and makes you inclined to always try something different.

First outing of the New Year and the food is still amazing. This was the first time I've done a lunch outing and the only difference is the number of people. Our server was new and in training, but she was very organized. The fish was firm and flavorful. Not at all rubbery and didn't have a strong fishy odor or foul taste. Maybe next time I'll be brave and order outside my comfort zone.

Such a chill place to have sushi. Sushi is a Zen experience for me. I love going to have sushi at spots that are relaxing. It gives you a chance to slow down and really savor the flavors. I really enjoyed the nigiri, especially the escolar, which I consider to be like butter. Super tasty and such a rich flavor. I am not a big fan of the rolls, I tried one roll and it seemed that the sauces and everything overpowers the fish. I would return to Kei just for the escolar and the ambience.

Came to kei sushi for the first time for my friends birthday dinner and it was delicious! One thing that is super interesting and unique to kei is that they don't give you papers to fill out for AYCE. Instead they have a server come by to take your order. At first I thought this was going to be annoying and that rolls would be forgotten but it was actually great! Our server came by our table more often than other sushi restaurants and I think a big part of that is because of the ordering system. I only order cooked rolls and every roll I ordered was good. There wasn't anything I was disappointed in. They have an appetizer called the dragon balls and I was obsessed. Basically a jalapeno popper. I think i ordered it 6 times. I would come here just for those. SO GOOD. Our service was great and our server was super nice and fast. We will definitely be back

I've been to the sister location in North Carson on a few occasions, a couple years back. Before I lived closer. I would even drive a substantial amount of way to eat there, because there is nothing comparable from Gadnerville all the way up. Although I thought I had, apparently I never wrote a review, but I'm pretty sure I uploaded pictures. And that sushi joint was one of my all-time favorites! Fast forward to this location in Reno. I think I've been here at least once or twice before. Maybe not, but I have been to probably at least 75% of all the sushi joints in the immediate locale, and this one still holds the quality and tradition of the one down in Carson. I decided to pass on ohana, which is one of my top three favorite sushi joints last night and came down to Kei. Reminiscing on visits past. They have a pretty diverse menu, and every single thing I had was outstanding. Super fresh. I love the little twist they put on the quail egg shooters. Those have to be the best ones I've ever had, literally. I also like the diversity of the nigiri sushi. Seems that there's a lot more variations than at other places I've been to. I love the fact that they have "cocktails" with sake as the base. I had the Cucumber Saketini, and she had the lemon drop. Brilliant marketing, to upsell, and they were actually really good! I typically have a roll or two that I'll never order again from whatever sushi place I'm at. After I tried it the first time, but I enjoyed every single roll that I ordered from here, and would order everything a second time. I think my favorites were the pink lady, and the Tres Diablos. It's really hard to have a favorite because everything was so good. The place was really clean for the most part, paint falling off the wall towards the restrooms, but who really goes to the back of the house? Really nice typical Japanese decorum. Here are my only gripes. The menus are absolutely destroyed, to the point where they're almost illegible. I was told that they were only 6 months old, but other than the small print, a lot of the descriptions of the rolls, and the names of the rolls themselves were rubbed off. I personally think that having a pristine menu, speaks for the quality of the establishment, and makes a difference as far as experience goes. Other places I visited before, if the menu was in that condition, I would think twice about eating there. The waiter, was some super nice young kid, going to college. There were only two other parties in the entire restaurant, it was basically empty while we were there. I wish they would have paid more attention to pulling our empty plates and checking in on us. At one point I had to start stacking plates at the empty seat to my right at the sushi bar. Our chef was awesome, I do think that some of the presentation could have been a little bit better, and the crab that was placed on top of some of the rolls was pinched way too tight. To the point it would fall off in huge clumps, sometimes of the entire roll, anytime I tried to get a single piece of sushi. Other than that, it didn't really affect the quality and taste of the food. And I think the next time I go to sushi, I'll come back here again instead of going to my normal go to. All the staff were really nice, and gave us a nice farewell!

Kei is great for a date night or family meal. The ambiance is nice -- good lighting, ample room -- and the service is excellent. They have a wide ranging menu with dozens of different kinds of rolls, the fish tastes fresh, and the prices are fair. We had the following rolls: rooster, rainbow, tres diablos, and caterpillar. Rooster and caterpillar were fantastic; tres diablos and rainbow were a tad dry but otherwise good. With miso soup and wine the bill came to roughly $100. Would come back to try more of the menu.

If you have never been to Kai Sushi in South Reno in the Smithridge Shopping center, this is a fabulous Five Star sushi restaurant choice. The ambiance is beautiful, Sushi is Fresh and Food Presentation is Five Star. Owner Silvia who has owned this fantastic Kai Sushi location for 7 years, gave us the most outstanding service and the best hand roll I have ever tasted. Emily and I love how you created 2 little cups with lemons for our chilled Plum Wine in the Hot Saki pitcher. Thank you to Sushi Chef's Marvin & Merlino for torching the Red Dragon and giving us a firey show at the same time. The TORCHED Red Dragon hand roll is the BEST hand roll I have ever tasted! We also ordered a 2nd Torched Red Dragon hand roll, baked muscles, seaweed salad, edamame and Salmon. Not only did we try the all you can eat lunch with my daughter, but then 2 days later I brought my friend Lelia in to also try this fantastic restaurant and Torched Red Dragon Roll. She loved it too! I can't wait to try your Bento Box next. Thank you Silvya for a Five Star dining experience for my daughter and my friend. A big shout out to server Kyra for a wonderful lunch and your Sushi Chefs. This is a wonderful Restaurant and dining experience. Truly Five Star. Julie A

Once again enjoyed a great meal! Birthday lunch for my friend, Did all you can eat as 2-3 rolls each would have been about the same cost and this way we each got an appetizer and my friend got ice cream with his meal. Drinks are not included but we each opted for ice water with lemon which is great with the salty sushi. We went about 1230 Saturday and got seated right away without a reservation. They did start to fill up after we got there. Our server was prompt and I was able to get the gluten free soy sauce as well as my crystal shrimp sushi which was divine! I love the crab strips on top of the Lily and this was my favorite! The Godzilla was good with the little bit of heat from the Siracha. My friend ordered the macho macho which is on the spicy side with Siracha and pickled Jalapeños. The Volcano came as two rolls and was very filling! We managed to eat most with my friend helping with mine. They do charge extra if you're unable to eat what you order but we didn't leave too much!! Stuffed but happy.
